Granby Toxteth Athletic CIC (GTA) is a sports organisation committed to improving mental health through physical activity. We currently run a walking club, football club, and basketball club, with plans to expand based on local interest.
Our football club has two teams, with a clear progression to the first team, aiming for participation in the North West Counties Football League (NWCFL). Similarly, our basketball club features two teams, with a pathway to the first team, aspiring to compete in a national league.
Our inclusive walking club travels to various locations and welcomes participants of all fitness levels, promoting both physical health and social connections.
GTA is dedicated to continuously enhancing our sports offerings to meet community needs, using sport to foster mental well-being and community spirit.
At Granby Toxteth Athletic, our work is about much more than sports—it’s about community transformation. As highlighted by the Liverpool Echo, we’re giving young people a voice, providing support for mental health, and addressing educational needs. This achievement is significant for us because we’re bridging gaps in services for underrepresented groups in Toxteth. We’re creating a safe and supportive environment for future generations, offering them a place to grow, and ensuring they have the opportunities to thrive and succeed.
At Granby Toxteth Athletic, we’re tackling mental health stigma head-on. As covered by Hyphen Online, we’ve created a space where young people can connect, build relationships, and openly discuss mental health in a supportive environment. This achievement is crucial because we’re not just a football club—we’re a community initiative bridging cultural divides and promoting well-being. Through sport, we’re breaking down barriers, fostering trust, and making a lasting impact on the mental health of Liverpool’s diverse communities.
